DEAL OR NO DEAL from the Philippines

My husband’s phone rang for the second time now so I thought it is something important. It was my mother in law whose an avid fan of Deal or No Deal. She called around 9pm here in Pennsylvania just to tell my husband that Howie is in the Philippines hosting Deal or No Deal. Isn’t that sweet of her. One thing that I was happy about in this particular episode is that the friend of the contestant who happens to have been all over the world said that Philippines has the most nicest people. Hey, it was his words.

Watching a Filipino succeed is a treat. A talent like Charice Pempengco made me more   proud to mention “Im a Filipino”. I saw her perform in Ellen De Generes show and she is absolutely fantastic. She was blessed with such a great voice and a humble heart. She garnered a standing ovation from the audience after belting out “I will always love you” by Whitney Houston .

Charice Pempengco, you made us so proud for what you have already accomplished. Not only you surprised foreign countries with your extraordinary voice but you showed many Filipinos in all parts of the world how to make it happen.

Philadelphia to New York City

I celebrated my __th birthday in New York City this past April 2008. Since it would be so hard to find a parking in the busy streets of NYC not to mention it being costly, I told my husband if we could just drive to NJ Transit in Trenton, park the car there and take a train to New York City (Penn Station). Sounds like a good idea. We reached NJ transit, Trenton station (72 South Clinton Avenue) around 10:45am and luckily, we found a parking lot that offers a whole day rate for less than $10, just be sure to get your car before 9pm.  As soon as we parked, we hurried to get inside to purchase the ticket which is $12.50 per adult/per way. The travel time from Trenton Station to Penn Station was about 70 minutes so make sure you bring your iPod or favorite magazine. I noticed that most of the commuters are professionals most of them living in Philadelphia and New Jersey area.

Make them CRY or LAUGH during your speech.

Studies shows that if a speaker is standing on the left side of the stage, meaning right side vision of the audience, your information will much likely to affect on the left side of the brain of your audience which handles their appreciation  for a good joke. Many successful comedians knows this technique and tend to go on the left side of the stage when they crack a joke. On some occasions that you want to touch the emotions of your audience meaning make them cry and relate to a very emotional story, you have to try standing on the right side of the stage, meaning audience left side.

What is the meaning of your handshake?

posted by: Romina Filipina.. March 4th, 2008 1:12 am

Do you know that there are ways to decode a little side of your personality on just the way you shook somebody else’s hand. If you initiate the handshake and you reached your hand to the other person and your palm is facing down while waiting for the other person to reach out, that means you wanted to be in control.

When you do handshake and your hand seem to be facing downwards while holding the other person’s hand, you are being in control of the other person. On the other hand, if you wanted the other person to feel superior to you, just let your hand face upwards while handshaking.

To show equality, make sure you don’t let your hands fall either at the bottom or on top while shaking hands but just in the middle, meaning like this.

Additional charge to your credit card.

My husband got a chase credit card bill for a credit card that we haven’t been using for more than a year. When I checked the bill, there’s only one charge for $95.99 which we did not purchase. My husband called the company who charged this amount, usually on your bill, there’s a toll free # and reference #. So he called this company and told them why are we being charged without our knowledge. The company claims that they sent a letter along with Chase rewards check and since we cashed them, it automatically enrolls us to this feature. (To tell you the truth, I cannot remember cashing any rewards from Chase thru this account!) Well anyway, the company agreed to send us a refund within 10 to 15 business days and then afterwards my husband inform Chase about this. Please don’t fail to check your credit bill every month to avoid companies ripping off consumers.

Palace of Asia

Last night my husband and I had dinner with our Indian friends. Since we are starting to love Indian cuisine, we asked them to take us to a very nice Indian restaurant. This place serves nouth Indian food. It is located somewhere in Landsdale, PA. We ordered chicken tikka masala, chicken vidaloo, nan (bread) with onion, and some appetizer. All were superb and very satisfying. My husband who used to just eating american dinners loved it as well. If you find an Indian restaurant in your area, it’s worth tasting chicken biriyani (chicken with rice), chicken/lamb kababs (which are both good with rice) and my favorite chicken tikka masala (chicken with different spices in a sauce)

                                         (chicken tikka masala)

and eat it with butter nan (bread) .

US visa

Who among you are waiting for the approval of your US visa? Ive been thru that situation in 2005. My fiance filed a “petition for fiance (k1 visa)” in February 2005 and he received an approval notice after 10 to 12 days. It only took about 2 months for the approved petition  to be forwarded to US embassy in Manila. In April 2005, I received a packet containing all the paperworks that my boyfriend submitted in USA when he filed the petition for me and then the US embassy in Manila enclosed a list of things that I need to do like taking my Physical examination in St Luke’s Medical Center Extension Clinic (Ermita, Manila) on specific date and time and the list of things that I need to bring and submit during my interview with the Consulate. My interview was set in May 2005 and since I lack the other paperworks that I need to present during my interview, the approval of my fiance visa was delayed. It should have been approved on that same day but the Consulate needs to see my petitioner’s income tax returns which was not included in the paperworks that he submitted. Make sure you have EVERYTHING during the interview otherwise you will end up waiting like me. Although I had to go home on that day without the yellow note which indicates approved visa, I still know in my heart that everything would be fine because I was told by the Consul that I only have to come back and submit those papers that he needs to see. The consequence for not having those income tax returns during the interview is waiting for additional 4 months. Eventhough that’s all they need to see after checking my applications, I still need to wait for the time where the Consul will reopen my file and review the documents again and then send me the decision. For some people, they had to comeback for another interview, but because of God’s favor, my passport, approved K1 visa and medical records was just mailed to my residence. I received my K1 visa late September 2005. Timeframe was approximately 7 months including all the delays. Not bad at all!
